Life as it progresses is a series of experiences and adaptations, learnings, new experiences, and new adaptations. Sometimes these processes of change are intentional, and many other times, these processes are required of us to make. In both intentional and unintentional change, there can be hurdles to overcome, pain, satisfaction, and new awareness gained.
Join the staff of Campus Wellbeing and Education for a 6-part exploration of change, the triumphs and challenges of it, the barriers to it, and why it is essential to be mindful of the changes we make.

Session 1 - March 30, 2022
Mindful Self-Compassion: How to grow, where to go

How often have you tried to motivate yourself to live a little better? Maybe you want to eat better, exercise more, read more frequently, but end up making the whole process to unpleasant you go back to your old ways?
This program is an exploration of motivating behavioral change with curiosity and compassion instead of self-criticism. Come and try out what research has shown to be both a more gentle and more successful way to make the changes we need in our lives.

Cultivating Equanimity: Finding Calm Within the Storm

Equanimity is the ability to be calm, composed, balanced and steady even in the midst of difficult and challenging circumstances – personal and collective. Equanimity helps us greet each moment wholeheartedly, with steadiness, groundedness, and responsiveness. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore equanimity, its effects, and how we can develop it through mindfulness. This session will include a guided meditation designed to cultivate equanimity and a sense of well-being.

This webinar will highlight behavior-based self-care techniques that you can add to your daily routine to help you move from where you are to where you want to be.

Surfing the Waves of Organizational Change

Sometimes, we may experience organizational change as challenging and, at other times, thrilling. Using surfing as a metaphor, we will discuss several change-management theories that may serve as useful tools as we try to successfully ride the waves of change. Join us as we explore topics such as the stages of change readiness, insights from neuroscience, and strategic self-reflective inquiries to strengthen our individual and collective adaptive abilities.

How to know what is right for you? Barriers and benefits of considering change.

There is so much dialogue in the wind about change. Changing cultures, changing systems, structures, processes, and also changing the self. But how does one know if they are ready for a change? Besides that, change is hard and there are real psychological, emotional, and tangible barriers. Join Quade French, Ph.D. and your colleagues in a discussion about how we know when we’re ready for change, and to better understand how to overcome the barriers to change before us.

Change and Trust: Important Ingredients to a good life

Do you trust yourself? How do you know when to trust another? When to know not to trust someone? How to handle when you don’t trust someone or an institution? Importantly, how do you know when change is needed to increase trust and how does one do it?
Dr. Ilene Rosenstein, Associate Vice Provost, Campus Wellbeing and Education, and attendees will talk about these issues. In addition, ways to build trust in your life will be introduced so there’s more psychological safety and love in your world.

About the Series
More than two thousand USC staff and faculty participated in the series that provided space to learn, connect, heal, and take action to support themselves and others. The fall 2021 series will include community members working together to create a more inclusive and equitable USC.
Every other Tuesday from 12:00-12:50pm, expert panelists will gather to engage in discourse regarding topics of Race, Equity, and Wellbeing. Recordings of each webinar will be available in the days following each session.
The Tuesday following each webinar, the conversation will continue with Discussion Groups, also from 12:00-12:50pm. Led by trained facilitators, these important dialogues allow participants to engage with other staff and faculty. Reactions, stories, plans for action, and honest reflection are encouraged. Webinar attendance is NOT required for the discussion groups.
