General Concerns

Campus Support & Intervention (CSI) is an office within Campus Wellbeing and Crisis Intervention. They are there to assist students, faculty, and staff in navigating complex issues. Whether you are seeking support for yourself or someone else,  they can provide consultation, in person or over the phone, to learn more about your individual situation so they can give guidance and help you connect with relevant campus and community resources at (213) 740-0411.


Life-threatening Situation

Call USC Department of Safety immediately at (213)740-4321 on the University Park Campus or (323) 442-1000 on the Health Science Campus


Academic Performance

Consider attending the professor or TA’s office hours and contact your academic advisor.

Undergraduate Education in STU100 at (213) 740-1741 or undergrad.usc.edu/services/ provides academic counseling.

The Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity provides a broad array of innovative services to students with learning differences including individual learning strategy sessions with an academic coach and assistive technology.  Connect with them at kortschakcenter.usc.edu, by visiting them in STU 311, or by calling (213) 740-7884


Accommodations for Disabilities

Connect with Disability Services and Programs (DSP) supports students needing academic accommodations, and also provides valuable programming and support to students with learning differences.

To receive any disability-related accommodations, DSP must formally approve documentation of the disability and issue a letter of accommodation that students can provide to their instructors.

Student athletes should also contact their advisor in Student-Athlete Academic Services by calling (213) 821-4710, emailing them at athsaas@usc.edu, or by visiting them at the John McKay Center (JMC) 102.


Bias or Discrimination

All incidents of bias, hate crimes, and hate incidents are considered a serious breach of our community expectations (Principles of Community) and should to be reported allowing for appropriate investigation and response.

Campus Engagement and Belonging

Many students feel lonely, even when surrounded by peers. Most students desire more involvement, but there are so many activities to be part of at USC that it can feel overwhelming.

The Residential College offers Cardinal and Gold Events on Friday and Saturday nights during the academic year, listed at resed.usc.edu/events/cardinal-gold-events

Whether it is late night programming, volunteer opportunities, student organizations, or leadership development, students should connect with Campus Activities at campusactivities.usc.edu

The USC Event Calendar at calendar.usc.edu/calendar has listing of daily events that students can attend. Recreational Sports has club sports, free gym memberships, and numerous classes that students can participate in.


 

Career Development and Academic Major Decisions

The USC Career Center has tools for students to explore a career path based on their personal values, goals, and needs. Personalized strengths assessments and support with everything from writing resumes to practice interviews are available. Emotional or Psychological Distress

It is normal to experience challenges in college, and getting help is a good coping strategy. Students who are concerned about the emotional well-being of themselves or others can connect to Student Counseling Services for free and confidential support.

On the Health Science Campus, contact counseling services by calling (323) 442-5631.

Counseling Services is a great resource for parents, staff, or faculty for free consultations around issues of mental health if they have concerns about their students.

Students may also be interested in the Lifestyle Redesign program run by the USC Occupational Faculty Practice to learn about life skills and organization. Contact them at (323) 442-2850 or chan.usc.edu/patient-care/faculty-practice/about if you are interested in developing healthy life habits.


Physical health and wellness

Mindfulness

Mindful USC offers ongoing training, for-credit courses, practice groups, and special events to empower students, staff, and faculty to be more mindful and compassionate. Try the Mindful USC Mobile App at mindful.usc.edu/mindful-usc-mobile-app which helps students learn to handle difficult emotions, calm overall anxiety, and get focused. Learn more at mindful.usc.edu


Identity Development

USC has many centers and programs that foster students’ connections with their various identities. Students should begin by contacting the Office of Student Affairs in STU 201 at (213)740-2421 or studentaffairs.usc.edu to look at the various cultural communities and the various activities and services they provide to help empower, engage, and educate regarding cultural identities.


Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence/Gender-Based Harm

Students who have concerns about sexual assault, domestic violence, or gender based harm who wish to speak to a professional in a confidential setting should connect with Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention and Services (RSVP) in ESHC356 at (213)740-4900 or usc.edu/studenthealth. Staff at RSVP are well-trained, and compassionate, and can provide support and information about reporting, and contacting the Office of Equity and Diversity/Title IX in CUB200 at (213)740-5068 or equity.usc.edu.


Spiritual Development

USC Office of Religious Life (ORL) has over 90 different student religious organizations on campus, representing almost every major world faith and life stance. Students are invited to attend gatherings of any and all of these groups. Contact ORL in University Religions Center 106 on the University Park Campus or McKibben Hall 160 on the Health Science Campus, at (213) 740-6110 or orl.usc.edu.


Family Emergencies

Students may need support with family emergencies or family crises such as a death, natural disaster, or financial challenges. Campus Support and Intervention (CSI) can help identify resources and next steps for those impacted by such events.
